Darren Almond, Daniel Buren, Jenny Holzer, On Kawara, Lee Ufan (group show)
SCAI PARK, Terada Art Complex, Tokyo
11 March - 1 April 2017

The inaugural exhibition at SCAI PARK will showcase works by Daniel Buren, Jenny Holzer, Darren Almond, Lee Ufan and On Kawara, combining latest works by represented artists made specially for the inaugural launch and historical masterpieces from the gallery collection not shown to date.

New works in the exhibition include British artist Darren Almond (b. 1971) whose retrospective exhibition at Art Tower Mito is still fresh in our memory; as well as Lee Ufan (b. 1936), 2014 guest artist for his solo presentation at Château de Versailles in France. Almond is presenting a new work from his star painting series made of Aquacryl on aluminium panels, with images derived in reference to the data recorded by the Hubble Space Telescope. Lee’s new acrylic painting, Dialogue (2016) explores the artist’s use of multiple colour elements in a single stroke.

Exploring how these different dimensions intersect and how we “inhabit” them, many of his artworks testify to his interest in subjective, liminal experiences, playing on the foundations of our perception and knowledge. Devised as a “temporal landscape” deploying all facets of his practice – photographs and videos along with sculptures, paintings and textual pieces – his exhibition at Mudam Luxembourg combines motifs such as the universe, shadow, polar glaciers, the cycle of the seasons, and our position “between the fire of the rock and the fire of the sun”. It highlights how, in his work, different time scales resonate – whether cosmic, geological, historical or personal.

Man in the Mirror (group show)
Vanhaerents Art Collection, 24 April 2014 - 28 October 2017

The Vanhaerents Art Collection is pleased to announce its third exhibition, entitled Man in the Mirror, which will be open to the public from May 3,2014 . For this presentation, the founder and patron of the collection – the former building contractor Walter Vanhaerents – joined forces with Emma Dexter, who in recent years has curated widely acclaimed shows forICAand Tate Modern.

Set to run for a period of three years, the exhibition Man in the Mirror features a selection of over 40 largescale works from the Vanhaerents Art Collection. On display are paintings, sculptures and installations that incorporate mirrors or reflecting materials, as well as artworks that hold a mirror up to the audience, encouraging introspection, critical self-awareness and reflective thought.

With a nod to the eponymous comedy film from 1936 and Michael Jackson’s famous song, this thematic exhibition extends over three floors. Combining recently created artworks with seminal, historical exponents of arte povera, Conceptualism and Neo-Geo, it covers a wide array of topics such as time and space, matter and mind, and individual and collective identity. Concurrently, it raises intricate questions about art, society and the human body. (press release Vanhaerents Art Collection)
